| NDTV and Public Cause Research Foundation (PCRF), an organisation set up by Magsaysay awardee Arvind Kejriwal have joined hands to acknowledge those who have displayed exemplary commitment to RTI Act. National RTI Awards will honour those who have strived through the RTI to make India better .
The main event will be an award ceremony with 5 people being awarded in 3 categories: Application Deadline: June 30, 2009
-Best Information Commissioner in the country – One award
-Best Public Information Officer in the Country – Two awards
-Best RTI Citizen (someone who has used RTI act in the best possible manner or in the most effective
manner) – Two awards
The entries will be invited for the best PIOs and citizens while commissioners will be nominated by PCRF. A jury of eminent people and the citizens of India through voting will choose the winners. Each winner will receive a citation, a plaque and prize money of Rs. 2,00,000.
The Awards Ceremony will be held in November 2009 in New Delhi.
Eligibility Criteria
Award for the Best Citizen of the Year Any Indian citizen who has filed one or more RTI Application/s and has either:
Received a response to his/her RTI application(s) on or before December 31 2008, or never received any response to his/her RTI application till May 30, 2009 and feels that his/her application has created substantial public impact, is eligible to apply for the Best Citizen of the Year Award.
Award for the Best Public Information Officer of the Year
Any government officer who has worked as a Public Information Officer (PIO) for any period of time during the calendar year 2008 (January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008) is eligible.
Award for the Best Information Commissioner of the Year
Information Commissioners need not apply. All Information Commissioners are automatic nominees
